Costa Rica, the country near which InGen is located, and the country to which the injured guard was flown.

Case Study:
An Injured Guard

In 1989, a young security guard working for International Genetics Technologies, Inc. (InGen) was severely wounded at an InGen construction site located on an island off the coast of Costa Rica. Though the guard was flown to a medical clinic in Costa Rica, his injuries were so severe that he died almost immediately after being taken to the clinic. Doctors at the clinic were initially told that the guard had been injured by construction equipment, but it later became clear that he had been injured by a transgenic creature housed in a research facility near the construction site.
